What is meant by "carbon budget"? David Spratt lays it out - essential to our understanding of what must be Canada's role, what must be our individual roles, in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Take 18 min. of your time to understand this:
Do we have a carbon budget? What do we mean bye 1.5 degrees C. and why?

Wednesday June 29th, 6:30 pm, CARBON BUDGET AND CARBON PRICING, with Michael Brothers, of Toronto Climate Action Network. Presentation and Discussion. Friends House, 60 Lowther Ave., meeting room.
Michael will present information on the urgency of climate action given the very limited carbon 'budget' required to keep temperature rise to no more than 1.5 degrees C. Michael will present on the CO2 emissions reductions plans included in the Government of Ontario climate action plan (cap and trade), and we will consider the need for a carbon reductions target in the climate consultation process that the federal government is engaged in this summer. The current Canadian target is still the same one that Stephen Harper set, 30% below 2005 levels by 2030. The current global targets, even if achieved, would lead to a 3 or 4 degree C temperature rise this century - therefore more ambitious targets are essential to our survival.
What target will be required to keep temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius?
What is Ontario's plan to achieve climate targets through cap and trade?
What is the PEOPLE'S CLIMATE PLAN and how can I participate in the federal climate consultation?
